Through the dusk of the night, ADAPT members moved through the streets to the White House. Looking from the back of the line, the long string of chairs and people moved in unison so precisely they seemed as one. Occasionally, a chair would die and quickly they were whisked into a van.

As we approached the Washington Monument, I must admit, the majesty of the structure in the evening light was inspiring. As we climbed the hill to the White House we heard the rally speakers begin.

With everyone facing the White House, we listened as person after person told their individual story of how their lives had been stolen and how they came to be with us.

I don’t know about anyone else, but even as cold as I was, I felt warm as hell inside, to know that we were here together again, set and ready to fight these horrible injustices.

Sunday began with day and color leader meetings. The preparation for Monday indicates a pretty intense action. In the general meeting, everyone was assigned a color group and was given materials for Monday’s action – poncho, noisemakers, and foam mats to lay on.

I coordinated an afternoon session on Olmstead implementation. The session was great – Linda Anthony talked about Pennsylvania, with Dawn Russell talking about Colorado, Jennifer McPhail on Texas and Little John on Maryland.

“How many and when?” Linda encouraged everyone to ask their own state when it comes to getting people out of nursing homes. Concluding the evening, we marched to the White House and several people spoke of their experience being forced into an institution, an excellent prelude to the week.
