ADAPT Action Profiles

Sarah Dixon Albuquerque, New Mexico Second National Action My first action was overwhelming. It was like a dream come true. I had read about ADAPT in Mouth. So I was almost "star struck" when I met Bob Kafka and the other ADAPT leaders.

 

This time I'm much more focused on the issues. I want to get MiCASSA passed. I want to work on freeing people from institutions. The action in the Finance Committee Hearing Room was incredible. Very emotional too. I felt honored when I was arrested (for the first time). Frustrated because we couldn't get a hearing but empowered and proud.   - Nadina LaSpina

 

Michael McFadden Blooming, PA Philadelphia ADAPT First Action Shortly after I became disabled, while I was still in the hospital, some activists from Philly ADAPT came to the hospital to talk about disability rights and ADAPT. It sounded interesting. So, after I came out of the hospital, I decided to go on an action. I was just looking for something to do. I didn't know what to expect.

 

It was like a bolt of lightening hit me in the head. I realized that I could end up in a nursing home very easily. I became totally committed to getting MiCASSA passed. I'm ready to get arrested if necessary. I'd rather go to jail than die in a nursing home.   - Nadina LaSpina
