As I sit and look out over the Puget Sound, our reason for being here is clear. The beauty, the majesty that first drew people to this country is something that should be seen by all. But our brothers and sisters sitting in nursing homes will never have that chance.
Why? Because the nursing home industry continues its stronghold on the people running this country. We are their cash cows, and they will never cut us loose. Governors in each state hold our freedom in their hands. Are they in their position to serve the people in their state? Or are they there to serve the nursing home industry?

ADAPT is bringing its message to the National Governors’ Association this week. Pass the Resolution! Prove to the people that they are who you serve.
As we passed through the streets, shouting “Our homes, not nursing homes!,” I watched as person after person shook their head in agreement, as they raised their thumb, encouraging us as we passed.
Maybe they recognized that our message was not just about us. Maybe they realized how the freedoms of some people have been stolen. Maybe they realized how the freedoms of some people have been stolen. Maybe they knew that they never wanted to go in a nursing home!
This is our first day in Seattle. It was our shot across the bow!
NGA, we will not go silently into that night, and we will FREE OUR PEOPLE! The real work begins tomorrow!

It’s the end of the march and rally at Pike’s Market park. It’s the end of the day however it is still not time to rest because tonight we plan for tomorrow. The last 24 hours have been exciting in the rally.
All day Friday fellow warriors, friends and compatriots arrived. Each added to the excitement of knowing why we are coming together. That camaraderie extends from the most experienced ADAPTer to the greenest member. It exists because we come together to say no more! We demand change.

What is an ADAPT action like? That’s hard to express. How would you feel if you gathered together with 500 people all of whom are there just like you to yell, scream, sing, and shout for freedom? We all work hard for freedom but you realize together we have the power to create change.
How does an ADAPT action feel? How does one express the overwhelming feeling of solidarity we have? How does it feel to see 500 compadres line up circling a whole city block? I cannot express that in words, but to say “overwhelming!”
Brothers and Sisters united for a just cause—choice, freedom and justice!
