Tennessee ADAPT
Memphis, TN
First National Action.

Although I have been an ADAPT member for many years, this is my first national action. Seeing so many people united to fight for the same just cause is overwhelming. The energy and excitement is contagious and I have no doubt that as a group standing together we have the power to create change for those of us who are institutionalized and for future generations.

I am sorry to say I am from Tennessee, one of the ten worst states at providing alternatives to nursing homes. Although a few of my friends once institutionalized are now living in the community, many of them are among the two million of us who are locked away. I am proud to be an ADAPT member and to be a part of the important work of fighting for our right to live in our own homes in the community.

As we scream, shout and sing our songs of freedom, I think about our brothers and sisters who are warehoused in nursing homes and know that we cannot be silent until they are free. Too many lives have been stolen and we must continue to fight to FREE OUR PEOPLE.
