We block Constitution Avenue in downtown Washington DC and the Deputy Director of the Department of Justice flies in to speak with us. We camp out at the Department of Health and Human Services and the acting director, as well as the incoming director agree to meet with us quarterly. We block the streets adjacent to the Westin Hotel and Governor Rendell promises to introduce our resolution to the National Governorsí Association. We call a press conference and the press shows up. We protest in front of the regional HUD office and the regional director promises to forward our demands to Washington. He meets immediately with our leaders.

Director of HHS speaks with nursing home resident Harry Caulder.

ADAPT Caution Tape: Money follows the person and MiCASSA It is power

It comes from ADAPT. It is intoxicating but I realize that I only share this power as I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters. By myself I am nothing; no one will offer to meet with just me, no one will listen to or care about my demands.

I love the power of ADAPT, but only for what it accomplishes. People who have been ignored by society are ignored no longer. Our brothers and sisters will leave their prisons. And when my time comes I will get the help I need in my own home. Our power comes with a price; thank you for your sacrifices, for your willingness to put so much on the line. I am proud to be a member of ADAPT.
