Colorado has been ahead of the national curve providing people with disabilities more options than nursing facilities and institutions to receive long-term care services. In our state, Home and Community-based Services (HCBS) are a cost-effective alternative to expensive and undesirable institutions. HCBS services help people remain in their own home or even move out of nursing homes and get the type of services that allow them to be independent. We spend over $50,000 of state and federal Medicaid funds to keep someone in a nursing facility each year while the average annual HCBS cost to Medicaid is less than $22,000. Next >>
