Free Our People March

ADAPT Marching into action

2003 marks the fourth time MiCASSA has been introduced in Congress. ADAPT is demonstrating its commitment to get MiCASSA passed in 2003 by organizing a 140 mile march from Philadelphia to Washington, D. C.— From the Liberty Bell to Capitol Hill

Over 100 members of ADAPT, with allies who are committed to “freedom and justice for ALL,” will begin this historic March in Philadelphia on September 4, 2003. The Free Our People March will pass through Delaware, and Maryland, all the way to the nation’s capitol. Marchers (walking and rolling) will travel 8 to 12 miles per day, stopping at various locations along the way for food and sleep. This will not be going from hotel to hotel—marchers will be sleeping on cots, ground and in tents.

Marchers starting in Philadelphia will be joined by another 300 people in Baltimore for the trip into Washington, D. C. Arriving on September 17, the journey will culminate at a rally attended by more than 10,000 people as ADAPT delivers the message to Congress—NO MORE STOLEN LIVES, PASS MiCASSA NOW!

By enduring the obvious discomforts and inconveniences of the march, individuals will be demonstrating the undying commitment to all persons, young and old, having the choice AND opportunity to live in the community with the supports and services they need.

The march is not going to be easy and it will not be cheap. But, this historic march will happen and we need your support. If you want to participate in the march, or volunteer, make a donation, or assist in some other way, please contact ADAPT’s Free Our People March.
